Latest news from Buffer Bear Reading

Hello my name is Leanne Green, I have been at Buffer Bears in Reading since we opened in 1996 and have been the Manager since 2002. All my staff have been trained to provide the planning for the children using the early years foundation stage.

We constantly utilise the town centre location with visits to the Museum, library, river and parks, we also have a secure garden facility.

Our meals are prepared freshly on a daily basis by our cook Elaine, who has been with us since 2007, she provides a delicious and healthy menu and her high standards have been recognised by our local environmental health officer.

We recently held a graduation day for all the children leaving to start school, the children received certificates and mortarboards and had a party to celebrate. We always encourage the children to come and visit after they have left; it is always nice to see the children in their school uniforms.

We have recently been awarded a grant to update our garden including a shelter that can be used as an outdoor classroom, resurfacing and a permanent slide.

Our children in the Paddington Room recently had a visit to the opticians; they learnt what an optician does and sat in the chair, they all tried different frames that were different sizes and colours. We are continuing with this theme in the children’s work.

Every Christmas we organise a trip to the Pantomime for the 3-5’s, a party for all rooms with a visit from Father Christmas, together with a Christmas Dinner prepared by Elaine.

At present all the 3-5’s are about to take part in a competition called “my first poem” this is a fun way for children to use their imaginations and introduce them to poetry and rhyme. It builds their literacy and creative skills in a fun way where all children can take part, enjoy and achieve an outcome.
